We ask that you read two books this summer. Please choose one book from the theme options and one series book of your choice.
Theme Choice Books:
Theme: Power of Voice The theme for our 6th Humanities year is Power of Voice. Each of us has a voice. The question is: how will we use our voices? The characters in these novels use their voices in powerful ways. Read and find out what these people are passionate about!
There is no formal summer reading assignment. Just be ready to have an awesome discussion with your classmates about the Theme Choice book and be ready to share out about your Series Choice book. If you would like some direction, consider the following 2 questions: 1.) How can individuals use their voices to change the world? 2.) How can the factors and circumstances in our lives lead to us using our voices powerfully?
Sixth Grade Independent Choice Book:
For your second summer reading book, you can choose any work with your parent's permission as long as it is part of a series.
1) Series books tend to be more non-realistic in nature, but any book with a sequel, including non-fiction, is fair game. 2) Not all titles are appropriate for all readers. Parents should help students pick books that fall in their range of interests and are developmentally appropriate (these lists are suggestions for multiple grade levels).
